Sonja Steed

My name is Sonja (Thompson) Steed. I have worked here as the director of Covenant Kids

Preschool since June 2022. I am the daughter of a minister and social worker. I have served

many roles in church youth programs throughout my life as a student and as an adult. After

working for 31 years from the Guilford County School System as a School Counselor, I excitedly

transitioned into working with preschool families and teachers here at Covenant Kids Preschool.

I believe I have been called here to use my gifts and experience to partner with the fantastically

gifted weekday staff as we nurture children through the love of Christ. I believe a quality early

child development program is the foundation for all social, emotional and academic learning. I

also believe creating strong family units is a huge part of building a healthy child.

I recently married Mark Steed and can’t wait to continue our love of camping and plans to travel.

God has created a beautiful world!! Personally, I enjoy gardening, biking, working out and

cooking. I have two adult children: Sarah and Mary Katherine. Sarah is a Senior Adult

Resource Coordinator in Wilmington. Mary Katherine will graduate from UNC this month and

begin work in Human Resources in Washington DC in July.
